YVES GAUCHER 1934-2000

Biography

YVES GAUCHER (1934-2000) was born and raised in Montreal and has long been recognised as one of Canada's foremost artists. First exhibiting at Galerie Godard - Lefort in 1962, Yves Gaucher rose to international prominence during the 1960s as an acclaimed painter and printmaker. His work was the subject of major museum exhibitions in Canada, the United States and Europe.

 

Gaucher's work is found in numerous important public collections around the world, including Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, IL; Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto, ON; Musée d'Art contemporain de Montréal, QC; Musée des Beaux Arts de Montreal, Montreal, QC; Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY; Museum of Modern Art, Skopje, Yugoslavia; National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa, ON and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, England.

 

A retrospective of Gaucher's paintings and graphic works was exhibited at the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal in 2003.
